TIMGADE IN ALGERIA








Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1982, the Timgad site will delight all history lovers. A town in the north-east of Algeria, Timgad is home to this ancient Roman city of great archaeological importance, which was originally intended to serve as a post against the Berbers of the Aures. Built with its thermal baths, its temples, its forum and its amphitheater, the city is considered the last colony of deduction in Roman Africa. To visit: - The forum; - The amphitheater; - The library ; - Capitol ; - The district of Sertius; - The temple of the Dea Patria; - The Aqua Septiminana Felix, - The thermal baths; - The Byzantine fortress; - Necropolis ... How to get there: National 31 leads to Batna (12km) and then the road to Bouira will take you to Timgad.



It was founded by the emperor Trajan about the year 100. The full name of the city was Colonia Marciana Ulpia Traiana Thamugadi. Trajan commemorated the city after his mother Marcia, elder sister Ulpia Marciana, and father Marcus Ulpius Traianus.
Located in the modern day Algeria, about 35 km east of the town of Batna, the ruins are remarkable to represent one of the best existing examples of the grid plan used in the planning of the Roman city.
