For the traveler, Tam is the gateway to the Tassili of Hoggar and the starting point for excursions to Assekrem. The city deserves two days of visit. Taste the old-fashioned charm and the nonchalant atmosphere that wins the streets at all hours. Tam is the den of the Hitzit, "those who hold the walls", a mischievous expression designating the inactive.
In half a day, the curious will visit the hermitage of Brother Charles de Foucauld and the "frigate", a monastery of the Little Brothers of Jesus, with its sober and impeccable lines. Count another half day to stroll the Malian market and the main street leading to the craft market. Do not miss the natural history museum, smiling guides and stuffed mammals await you there. On the accommodation side, Tam offers the strict minimum. Despite its three stars, the only hotel in the city, the Tahat (3 stars), is hardly better than the hard encampments, numerous in the city. Shared shower and mattress on the floor. A perfect fit before a bivouac in the desert, nicely renamed by the Tuareg guides "the hotel with a thousand and one stars".
