KAIROUAN IN TUNISIA

Inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List, since 1988, the city of Kairouan, was founded in the 7th century by General Oqba Ibn Nafi. The fourth holy city of Sunni Islam after Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem, it is considered the capital of the Muslim Maghreb. Its cultural importance is still evident today through the wealth of architecture and traditions of its region. Here are our 5 reasons to enjoy it without further delay.

Let yourself be carried away by the splendor of a must-see of Islamic architecture: the great mosque of Kairouan

Admire the local handicrafts by strolling in the alleys of the old medina

The Medina of Kairouan stands out for its charm and authenticity. Strolling through its picturesque streets at this time of the year allows you to fully enjoy all its secrets.

The Kairouan region has a diverse vegetation (Aleppo pine, rosemary, white marrube, lentisk pistachio, pink laurel, Phenicia juniper) offering a particularly attractive landscape.

Although not well known, it has magnificent natural spaces that will allow you to recharge your batteries. Excursions are organized through the magnificent landscapes of Djebel Oueslat (35 km west of Kairouan), or Djebel Sarj (60 km north-west of Kairouan).

Note that at this time of year, the tourist influx is quieter than during the summer season. You will be able to enjoy a unique place just for you or almost a few hours or, from the exclusivity of a guide for your visits if you wish.
